We're having a WW2 themed dance in a couple of weeks.
Today we went to get costumes for it. I found a dashing Commodore's uniform, complete with a fuckin' awesome hat and white gloves. As a backup, there's an air force uniform.
I suggested that all the girls dress up as nurses. We found about a dozen white red cross nurse uniforms.
I seem to be the lone voice calling for this.

Wow, it's been a long time since I last updated this thing. Let's see.
I finished my internship, it was awesome and great.. lots of good recommendations from it, and I got a lot of good experience.
I'm back at school, living with a good friend, and working on my last semester before I graduate. It's a pretty easy semester, truth be told.
Got back into the swing of things with swing club, and I'm happy because of it.
Busy as heck, but I'm sleeping (kinda) well at night. I'm very glad to be back up here at Boone.

So what's new?
Well, my dad got a motorcycle and I'm learning how to ride it.
I'm also starting my new internship this morning (with the Raleigh PD detective's division). I'm a little nervous.
I've also gotten a character on Sagas, which seems like a rather fun place to play. Also got one of my friends to app there. Fun stuff.
That's about it for now. Time to eat and get on with the day.

I love Blues. Both the style of dancing that goes with it, and the music.

That's what I'm doing on campus all day. And it made front page news.

So.. Wondering what's up with me?
I'm happy. I've found who I want to be. I'm pushing myself harder everyday while still enjoying life to the fullest. I'm getting rained on and smiling about it. I'm breaking up with girls and feeling content. I'm realizing that I can do anything I want to if I put my mind to it. I'm healthy, I'm happy, I'm carrying myself in a professional manner, I'm doing the Right Thing.
I sleep very, very well at night.

WHEE! I just got done with the dance and some other stuff... It was mucho fun, and although we made a few mistakes I think it was really good for a first performance. As for the video, we're gonna put it on DVD. I can get a bunch of copies to send out, but I don't think we're gonna be able to put it online (I don't know how to rip from a DVD sadly).
Here's the song we danced to:
http://s50.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1GX0N447X4WG816X0I12YY71Q2
The first 15 seconds is a Jimmy Luxury song, it's great fun to dance to. :D
I -really- love it, and this Saturday Michelle and I are gonna dance to Love me or Leave me, I can't remember what version it is though. It's got a lot of cool bounces and stops in it that I can really groove to. :)

So for the past month or two a small group of us have been working on a lindy hop performance piece (choreographed dance to a song). We're doing it to "Is you is or is you ain't my baby", and we're performing it tonight. I'm nervous/excited, but I know we've got the routine down perfectly. It's a 4 minute 30 second song, which is a lot of moves to remember when you're doing an 8 count dance. If we get a video to put online I'll link to it from here... Maybe you all can actually see me dance!

This was so freakin' fun. Blues dancing. Lindy. Doing an 8-count dance to a 300+ bpm version of "Bugle Call Rag" has me worn out a full day afterwards. So much fun, though. I am depressed that it is over, but also happy to sleep in a real bed. Getting up tomorrow will suck. A lot.
Everytime I close my eyes I still feel like I'm dancing.
Oh, and after driving to all sorts of places at night in and around Atlanta... I feel confident about getting to Dragon*Con. ;)

So my life has gotten a bit more complicated recently.
I had a wonderful spring break, with lots of time spent by myself in the wilderness or with a good friend just... being quiet. That, strangely enough, was awesome. Took a lot of pictures, ate a lot of good food, learned some things.
All in all, it was a great vacation. But my life changed completely once I stepped foot inside a classroom again. Gone were the days where I thought about girls and spent my time planning my next hike or social event. Instead, my mind immediately snapped back into academic mode. So I rolled with it, and studied hard in my classes and even took a girl out for a date on Monday, to see V for Vendetta.
Later that night I told her I wasn't interested in anything other than a friendship, which is true. She's just not my type. But for the next day, I mulled over that decision, trying to figure out if I would rather put my effort into the relationship (which would likely be doomed and not land me anything other than a lot of drama), or work on more school or work-related projects? Well...
Lo and behold, I took up two more projects. Both are working with the university and community, but are with different schools. Plus, I think they're going to tap me for the core curriculum committee, which is a volunteer group who are looking at ways to improve the university's core curriculum. I've got a couple of ideas for that, too.
So life is pretty good. I'm happy, for the most part, and I'm definitely working to make a difference each day. It's a good feeling, but fairly exhausting. I've got a lot of work ahead of me.. If it pays off, though.. It'll be environmental law at Chapel Hill. So I can be a tree-hugging lawyer.
As for the relationship thing... something will happen eventually. Just not right now. :)

So the search continues. I've talked to more and more professors about law schools and stuff like that, and talked to the attorneys I volunteer with, and talked to a lawyer that works with my parents, and talked more with professors. What about? Well, about a variety of things. I end up repeating a lot of things to different people, such as my GPA and past/future plans. I've borrowed books on law schools, read them, picked out about 6 that look awesome to me. NC Central, University of Akron Law, Thomas Jefferson Law, John Marshall Law School, California Western, and Florida Coastal.
I've got a lot of things to do, I really need to research out these law schools more fully. But I also have a few things to do for swing club soon, and I also really need to work on a few things for the volunteer thinger. They've got me interviewing potential clients, and I'm really not used to asking total strangers about their mental health/health issues, amongst a plethora of other things I'd not ask my closest friends. Gonna have to get used to that, and I'm sure I will, it's just uncomfortable. And does anyone know what the 'right' course of action for me would be when a victim begins crying on the phone? Do I comfort her, do I just press onward with the questions despite the fact that they might be unsettling, do I hand it up the ladder after politely leaving the conversation? I am planning on asking the attorneys when I get back there on Thursday, but we'll see. I really like helping these people, it's a service that is really necessary and quite challenging... but it's gonna be emotionally draining if I don't get a hold of this pretty soon.
On a more personal note, I'm gonna love getting spring break this year. It's going to really help me out to just relax and forget about school and everything else for a week. Except those of you who live up there in the White Salmon area. I suppose I will be paying a bit more attention to you. ;) I'm really starting to wear down. This weekend I'm going to have to dedicate to papers, studying, and reading up on law schools, as well as trying to figure out if I can apply to a school that has a joint JD/MPA degree. I think I'd go that route if I can get into a law school that offers it.
Oh, as far as love goes? I'm happily off the market.

Well, since I am all professional now, I shall place this in the form of a list:
I have:
1. Decided I am going to apply to law school. This means that I am busy as heck trying to figure out what law schools I am going to apply to, start figuring out what to study for the LSAT, figure out what classes might help with the LSAT/Law School, and a few other things. It also means that I need to buckle down and hit the books far harder than I've ever hit them before, in order to try to bring my GPA up before I really have a hard time getting in.
2. Continued dancing. I'm Event Coordinator in the swing club, so that means that I've been busy coordinating events. Weekly meetings, dances, etc. I've been up to my ears running around campus and getting stuff done, as well as actually dancing (I'm teaching Lindy Hop now!)
3. Started volunteering. Albeit a small amount of time. I'm volunteering with an organization called Legal Aid of North Carolina. www.legalaidnc.org. It's a group that provides legal assistance to those who can't afford it in matters such as restraining orders, lawsuits, and the like. So far, it looks like we handle a lot of domestic violence cases and tenant/landlord issues. Mostly on the side of the victim or tenant. They're treating me like an intern, which is fun, and so far I've worked on two separate cases, finding a way to win one of them. Whee!
4. Taken to yoga. Yep, that's right. I do yoga, whenever I can.
5. Hike. I hike, hike and hike some more. I'm getting outdoors more and more on the weekends.
6. Re-opened ROE. After 2 weeks of some intense work, ROE is ready and open to the public. Hopefully I'll get the first event run this weekend when I've got some time, but thankfully the rest of the staff is really picking up the slack and getting things done while I'm off getting a life.
7. Oh yeah, classes. I'm taking 17 hours. 1 hour less than the absolute maximum the university will allow in a semester.
8. Internship. My -real- internship, which will net me 12 credit hours, will be going on in Raleigh. I've been getting their application filled out, as well as other things done for it. I'll be interning with the Raleigh Police Department. Probably the North Raleigh substation, since that's close to where I live.
9. Job hunting. I've begun hunting for a new job to do on the weekends during the summer, as I need to start saving up money over the summer. I really need the income, and if I can start saving some money for law school that'll be great... although I'll probably end up going into debt by about 100k anyway.
10. Death. I have taken up a temporary position harvesting the souls of the recently departed. It kills time. Hah-hah.

40-60 mph winds, with gusts higher.
10-20 degrees, with wind chill pushing it into single digits.
What do I do? At 10:30, I and a pair of friends put on our warm gear, hike to the top of a mountain (with wind so strong at parts that it seriously stopped us in our tracks, we couldn't walk a little, or were even pushed off the side of the trail. There were even some trees that were just snapped in two on the trail), and break out my backpacking stove to make some -tea-. Tea = good. The water getting cold again in 2 minutes, not so good.
But I'm back and it was an awesome trip. And I survived. ;)

Grabbed from various journals.
1. Grab the nearest book. 2. Open the book to page 123. 3. Find the fifth sentence. 4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions. 5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.
My sentence:
Note that few suspects who are arrested and then prosecuted, tried, and convicted.

So I stumble in from a hard night of drinking, hoping to pee and then go to sleep and thus avert any hangover.

Today seems to b one of those days. I'm bored alrady, my next class is cancelled, and I still haven't had a chance to hang out with my friends since getting back to school. It's rainy and dark outside, plus it's cold. This does not really equal a happy me. Hrm, wonder what I should do today to make my day better...

Ain't love a kick in the head?
Anywho, I've had a great weekend aside from getting hurt physically. Did some dancing, did a tiny bit of romancing, slept on a waterbed, generally had a wonderful time all weekend. I'm sad that it's over, but there's pictures and stuff to help me remember it.
That is all.

I went out hiking, when it is the coldest night of the season thus far. Probably 10-15 degrees minus wind chill (which was considerable at moments) where I was hiking. I put on every bit of cold weather gear I had, and drove out to a spot where I could easily get lost in the woods. The gear worked well (except for my camelbak, since the water in the tube was frozen solid when I went to take a sip) as I barely noticed the temperatures. And I managed to get a few well-earned bumps and bruises along the way. Good for stories.
I don't know what the hell is up with me otherwise. All my chances for a date just seemed to evaporate before my eyes today and I can't just shake the misery. I'm tired of playing the games, I'm tired of playing it safe, and I'm -really- fucking tired of biting my tongue in order to keep the peace. I feel like a loser, even though I know I'm not. How many guys would go hiking on the coldest night of the year alone? That's one thing I know I do well. Anyway, I guess I need to study now.
